It Might Be Harder to Find Your Favorite Booze This Christmas
If you had any trouble getting your hands on your favorite wine, beer, or spirits this Thanksgiving, you might have the same issues getting your hands on them this Christmas and New Year's.
You see those pesky supply chain issues that have at various times made it hard to find everything from wipes to turkeys and your favorite soda are now causing issues with some types of adult beverages this holiday season. What's causing it? According to NBC's Today Show, the problem is a shortage of glass bottles for wine and spirits and supply chain issues.
Now don't worry too much, The Today Show says experts tell them that we're not going to run completely out of booze. It'll be more of an inconvenience. Like having to go to several stores to find that bottle of wine or high-end scotch.
According to Today, about 40% of hard alcohol is imported, which means a lot of it is stuck on some ship sitting in a port waiting to be unloaded instead of on the shelf at your favorite liquor store. Add to that a short supply of glass bottles. And well, it may be harder to find your favorite brand of Champagne to ring in the new year.
So what can you do to not find yourself without your favorite adult beverage this holiday season? Start looking for your favorite elixir today. Don't wait until the week before Christmas to look for your favorite wine or spirits. Start looking now. If you can't find it at your usual store, check other stores.
And if the unthinkable happens and you can't find your favorite adult beverage, maybe try something new. After all, variety is the spice of life.
We've reached out to a few area liquor stores to see what impact, if any, the liquor shortage is having in West Central Missouri. We will update this story with our findings.
