Local Students Heroic Efforts Helping To Save a Life
These days, we are hearing about so many bad things happening locally, around the country, and around the world, so it's nice to read or hear a good story. That's just what this article is about. And it's about a couple of local good deed stories.
The first is from the Union-Endicott High School Facebook page, recognizing two seniors who recently helped a classmate. According to the U-E HS Facebook page, Luke Engel and Mari Stover-Ling discovered a U-E student lying face down on the grass near the school campus, who was experiencing a medical emergency.
Luke and Mari called 911 and stabilized the student until help arrived. They were awarded Certificates of Recognition for their efforts by local dignitaries.
The second is from New York State Senator Fred Akshar's Facebook page. David Diaz, a 2nd grader at Woodrow Wilson School in the Binghamton School District recently noticed one of his friends begin to choke during the lunch period.
According to the Senator's Facebook page, David gave his friend the Heimlich maneuver and it saved his life. David was quoted as saying “I was afraid my friend would die.”
Senator Fred Akshar presented David with a New York State Senate Commendation Award for exemplifying what it means to be a hero in his community. The Senator stated, “If someone you know is hurting it’s always good to think and help save others.”
These quick actions were done by our local youth, who did not hesitate to help their fellow students in a time of need. And that's a feel-good moment, times two we love to read and hear about.
